Mt Hay Retreat proves you don’t have to be big to shine!
Having only decided at the very last minute to apply for the NSW Tourism Awards, we were genuinely thrilled to be named Gold Winner for 5-Star Luxury Accommodation once again.
The awards gala was held at Waterview in Sydney’s Bicentennial Park in November, bringing together tourism and hospitality professionals from across NSW to celebrate excellence across 30 categories.
With a history spanning more than 30 years, the NSW Tourism Awards are the state’s longest-running tourism honours and the only pathway to the Australian Tourism Awards. What makes them particularly meaningful is their rigorous judging process, nationally recognised standards, and—most importantly—real-world guest reviews and feedback. There really is nowhere to hide.
As a small, family-owned and operated retreat, it was incredibly special to be in the room alongside so many outstanding tourism businesses. It was a reminder that you don’t have to be big to shine.
This win now sees us progress to the national stage, where we’ll represent NSW alongside some truly impressive properties from around the country. We are honoured to be included.
For those who know her, Louise—who runs Mt Hay Retreat with her wonderfully supportive (and camera-shy) partner Anthony—much prefers life behind the scenes. But for this occasion, she stepped out to proudly represent Mt Hay Retreat.
“We’re so proud of our family-owned business. To be recognised at this level, among such exceptional properties, means so much to us.”
“Most of all, our heartfelt thanks go to our incredible team and the many local businesses who work alongside us—from cleaners and massage therapists to the cafés, restaurants and retailers of Berry. Their care, passion, attention to detail and genuine warmth help ensure every guest experience is truly memorable. Small independent businesses truly are something special. We may be small, but our spirit is mighty.”
